Charity Work

Harvest 2024

Supporting North Oxford Community Foodbank

As we entered into the season of Harvest, St Thomas More School continued to make a real effort to support the work of the North Oxfordshire Community Foodbank, based here in Kidlington. Families brought donations of essential food and household items to be distributed to those that need them most in our local community.

North Oxfordshire Community Foodbank is a voluntary group formed by members of local Christian churches.  Their aim is to provide food parcels to people within the Kidlington, Woodstock, Chipping Norton and Charlbury area. The parcels will contain essential food for individuals and families in case of emergency, covering the time it takes for other social care infrastructure to come into play.

Lent 2024

Fundraising for CAFOD (Catholic Agency For Overseas Development)

Our Lenta charity in 2024 was CAFOD. Pupils received a CAFOD envelope to save money they would normally spend on sweets and other treats. A member of CAFOD came and addressed the children about the essential work of the organisation during a whole school assembly. This helped us all recognise where the money we raise is going and also showed who and how the funds are helping through the work of the charity.

We encouraged the children to participate in:

  • Raising funds for an important charitable cause
  • Practising a Lenten discipline

Charity events 2023-2024

In 2023-2024 the children took part in a variety of charity events throughout the year such as Show Racism the Red Card where the children wore red to school on Friday 20th of October and donated what they found affordable to the cause.

We also collected food donations for the local food bank at Harvest and Christmas.

The School Council continue to discuss and help organise charitable events to raise money for local charities and our school in each big term.
