Sports

Promoting competitive team and individual sports is at the heart of the St Thomas More Physical Education curriculum.  We have developed a school sporting ethos that gives pupils the skills to enjoy and take part in sport inside and outside of school, including local leagues, community and club sports.

 The PE programme of study aims to:

•    enable pupils to be physically active for sustained periods of time;
•    develop pupils’ competence in a broad range of physical activities;
•    provide opportunities for pupils to engage in competitive sports and activities and help pupils to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

We include activities that allow all primary school children to take part in competitive team sports like football, TAG rugby, netball and hockey, and also include team outdoor and adventurous activities.

It will also teach older children to compare their performances and to achieve their personal best for each activity.

A commitment to teach all children to swim is also part of our curriculum.

Each class has PE twice a week for an hour usually one indoor (covering gymnastics and dance) and an outdoor lesson.

Y4 children swim all year for one of their lessons.

St Thomas More PE Kit may be purchased from our uniform providers (see this website for details) and we ask that all children have a tracksuit, royal or navy blue in school.
